Old Testament God required animal sacrifices to provide a temporary covering of sins. The animal served as a substitute—that is, the animal died in place of the sinner, but only temporarily, which is why the sacrifices needed to be offered over and over. Cain and Abel brought sacrifices to the Lord. Cain's was unacceptable because he
brought fruit, while Abel's was acceptable because it was the “firstborn of his flock”. The
sacrifce required the shedding of blood. God told Moses he wants a lamb… in Exodus 12:5. He says He wants it to be perfect a lamb without blemish symbolic of the forecoming of Jesus. The lamb had to be slain. We must give to God our best. A lamb symbolic of Christ was offered 33 times in the old testament You will hear about other lambs Jesus was offered as a lamb of God when he was 33 years old.
